Pasadena has been part of the Los Angeles County since 1886. It was originally part of a Mexican Ranch called, Rancho del Rincon de San Pascual. Altadena was included in this original ranch. Altadena is directly north of Pasadena and in the mid 1860s a man named Benjamin Eaton developed the first water sources from the Arroyo Secco and from Eaton Canyon. Because of this water development, it was possible for Altadena, Pasadena, and South Pasadena to thrive. Pasadena is home to the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl. The General Settings of each are slightly different. Altadena is very urban but has a more natural look and feel because many of the homes are built on or at the foot of the mountains. Altadena is a small city and is mostly residential aside form the wild of the mountains and a few small business areas. Pasadena is an urban, more suburban home area just below the foot of the mountains. Pasadena is a lot larger than Altadena and has many large shopping areas, roads, and even a freeway that cuts right through it.
